About This ProjectRevisiting Washington

The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation is thrilled to bring you this interactive guide to Washington’s truly amazing places.  We undertook this project to help promote historic preservation and heritage tourism throughout the state by updating this classic guidebook.  While much has changed since it was first published in 1941, it may surprise you to discover all that remains as well as the unparalleled beauty and variety of our state’s natural and historic resources.  We hope this project inspires you to explore the countless wonders of our state!

Founded in 1976, the Washington Trust is our state’s non-profit historic preservation organization.  Working with grassroots groups and property owners alike to save important community landmarks, we have made significant strides toward our mission to help make local preservation work and to build an ethic that preserves Washington’s historic places through advocacy, education, collaboration and stewardship.

Over the past thirty years, the Washington Trust has sponsored major policy and legislative initiatives, promoted the economic benefits of historic preservation, provided critical grants around the state to preserve historic structures, and sponsored regular educational programs to increase public awareness of Washington’s historic resources and the need to protect them.

While our work reaches every part of our state, the Washington Trust is headquartered in the Stimson-Green Mansion, one of Seattle’s most significant residential landmarks, thanks to the generous donation by Patsy Bullitt Collins in 2001.  We love to open our house to the public by holding regular tours, educational workshops, and wonderful special events.  Through the Stimson-Green Mansion Catering Company, we also operate the Mansion as a premier venue for celebrating life’s grand occasions, hosting weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, as well as for holiday parties and corporate events.

We would be delighted to welcome you as a member of the Washington Trust, so won’t you please show that you care about protecting our state’s architectural and cultural heritage and enhancing our quality of life by becoming a member of the Washington Trust today?
